Welcome to Friends of Warm Hearth

Warm Hearth is the first long-term group home in Armenia. We remain committed to the idea that Warm Hearth is not a project. It is a home. It is a small but profound ideal sustained by the faces of our residents and the harsh reality of the fate that awaited them if something was not done. In 2005, our first residents were on the brink of being sent to psychiatric institutions only because there was no other means of support. In 2008, we welcomed our second group of residents with the same needs.

We are committed to providing homes to Armenian orphans with disabilities and mental illness who have outgrown the orphanages.

Warm Hearth is an organic project with a small focus, but this focus is people. Our vision is to provide our residents with continued peace and nurture. Our hope is that this vision continues to expand to embrace other orphaned adults with special needs.

The first steps were the most strenuous. From there on out it has been endurance, a cultivated love, and a commitment to the value of these individuals that have been the sustenance of Warm Hearth. Ours was a humble and small beginning, but has proven to be one with promise for the lives of our residents.

This is where it began. And the hope is that this is where it will continue—in a community of care and support for previously forgotten individuals in the small corner of Armenia.

We hope to be compassionate in all that we do and effective in ushering change into the collapsed mental health infrastructure in Armenia. With a minimal budget, committed staff and volunteer support we strive to provide hope, first and foremost, for our residents. We have come to realize, one step at a time that this is within our reach.

We are grateful for the many of you who have walked with us since the beginning and for those of you who have joined us along the way. All of those involved in Warm Hearth have been ordinary people, joining their small hands, as it were, to create a welcoming place, a home, for our residents.
